Post-Covid Travel Tips? We got you covered. In 2020, we saw many of our most beloved travel destinations descend into lockdowns but things are now looking up!

Thankfully, some destinations have already begun to open back up to travel once again and with COVID-19 vaccines beginning to be developed and distributed around the world, hopefully more countries will be able to open back up to travellers soon.

As travel begins to rebound, find out what you need to think about before you begin travelling in 2021.

1. Get Travel Certificates

One of the most important Post-Covid Travel Tips is to get your travel certificate.

While travel to many regions has resumed slightly, many airlines and nations are currently requiring and will continue to require that travellers submit evidence of a recent negative COVID-19 test before they will be allowed to board a plane or enter the country.

Proof you are negative for the virus is usually achieved by doing a quick online search for a corona test centre near me where you can get a coronavirus PCR test. If negative you’ll get a Certificate allowing you to fly and enter international destinations.

It’s important to check the exact requirements for each individual airline and country regarding the validity period for your COVID-free travel certificate. These certificates are usually only valid for a short time, so you will most likely want to get it as close to your travel departure date as possible.

2. Choose a Destination Based on COVID History & Safety

Hospitals in some countries are being overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients, which is hindering the treatment of patients with other ailments. So choose a location within a country which offers easy access to hospitals in case you do get infected with coronavirus or another illness.

You want to be assured there will be enough hospital rooms and doctors available to be able to treat you efficiently.

It’s wise to travel to countries which have a good record in regards to the pandemic. Countries that put in restrictions and safety measures meant that infection numbers were kept low. Countries that have a high volume of COVID-19 cases have a greater potential to go back into lockdown which may ruin your vacation plans.

3. Pack Right.

—— FACE MASKS: Most airlines are currently making it a requirement that you wear a facemask in order to board the plane. Many countries, hotels, and other businesses also have mask mandates in place.

—— HAND SANITIZERS: Remember that the alcohol level has to be between 60% and 80% to be effective against the coronavirus and other bugs.

You’ll need this for your airline seatbelt, tray table, and personal entertainment screen amongst others. Be aware that it can be hard to come by hand sanitizer in the shops in many countries at the moment, which is why it is important to travel with your own supply.

—— SELFIE STICKS & TRIPODS: No longer can we rely on the kindness of locals to take our photos in front of monuments after we hand them our cameras. In some cases, people may just be apprehensive. A selfie stick will assure that you can continue to capture those special travel memories.

Other essentials include:

  • Toilet paper (just in case of panic buys),
  • refillable water bottle,
  • your own cutlery set, and
  • even some disposable cups may not be out of place. It is better to be safe than sorry!

The travel industry still has a long road ahead in terms of getting back to normal, and flight delays or cancellations as well as restrictions will continue to disrupt our plans in the near future. Always have a plan B in place in case things don’t go smoothly.

4. Check your Passport

If you’re planning to travel internationally, make sure your passport is ready and should be valid at least through the end of the year. Renewal time for most countries, especially Nigeria is running 10 to 12 weeks, and even expedited service is 4 to 6 weeks.

“Planning ahead is crucial.”

5. Use AirBnB, not Hotels

Short-term rentals initially saw a dip in bookings, plummeting 47% from more than 2.3 million in January to 1.2 million by April. Bookings crept up in the following months, which researchers attribute to several factors:

    • Short-term rentals could make social distancing more feasible, with multiple bedroom-units and whole homes to rent.
    • More homes are in rural and/or remote vacation markets, a boon for travelers seeking to leave urban areas amid spiking COVID-19 cases.
    • Most have full-service amenities, including kitchens, making longer-term stays more convenient.

That’s it, I guess. Hopefully these Post-Covid Travel Tips will help you stay safe!
